Summary:
Question: When I specify the Network DDE names in Excel, I get the error message "Error in Formula". I am entering the following into the cell \\MYNAME\NDDE$|Citect$!PV_1. 

Solution:
Execl does not like the $ character in the application and topic names for the DDE. To get around this problem you must put the applicaton name and topic name in single quotes ('). For example:

'\\Computer\NDDE$'|'Citect$'!PV_1
