Summary:
Question: If I have a primary and Standby alarm server then shutdown the primary and then restart the primary the status of all the alarms and alarm summary is restored to their original states. If however I shutdown both servers at the same time and restart the status of the alarms is lost and the alarm summary is empty. Is there a way to save the alarms information while both alarm servers are shutdown?

Solution:
Yes there is a way to save the status of the alarms and alarm summary information. You must enable the alarm save file feature. To enable the alarm save file you must set the [Alarm] SavePeriod parameter to the period in seconds you want the Alarm Server to save the information to disk. The more frequent you save to disk the higher the load on the alarm server. A period of 300 seconds (5 min) gives good performance. On shutdown the alarm server will save the file to disk.

[Alarm]
SavePeriod=300

When the alarm server is restarted it will load the alarm save file into memory to restore all the alarm states if it cannot get this information from the other alarm server. This is also a good way to restore the alarm states if you have only 1 alarm server.
