Summary:
Some of the alarm display format fields give unreliable results when used to display the alarm summary. Which fields will I use to display the alarm summary?

Solution:
The format fields for alarm display and summary are listed in the Help system under Alarm Display Fields and Alarm Summary Fields topics respectively. However, I have found the usage of the following fields a bit confusing and here is an attempt to clarify it.

{State} The current state of the alarm. This field can only be used for displaying the alarms. If it is used with alarm summary it will replace all previous states with the current one.
{SumState} The state of the alarm when it occurred. This field is to be used with the alarm summary.
{LogState} The state of the alarm at the transition. This field is used to log the state to a device.
{Desc} The description of the alarm. This field can only be used for displaying the alarms. If it is used with alarm summary it will replace all previous descriptions with the current one.
{SumDesc} A description of the alarm summary. This field is used for the alarm summary.
{Value} The current value of the analog variable. This field can only be used to display Analog Alarms. It may not be used with the alarm summary.
