Summary:
Question: What Digiboard drivers are supported under Citect for Windows version 4.0 with Windows 95 and Windows NT? 

Solution:
Citect version 4.00 uses the standard Digiboard drivers supplied by Digiboard with Windows 95 and Windows NT. In Citect Version 3.x and earlier, we developed our own special drivers to run on the Digiboard. So when you installed a Digiboard you used the driver from Citect. We developed these drivers to work around the limitations of the Windows 3.x serial driver model. The Windows 3.x serial driver model limited the maximum number of serial ports and also greatly limited the maximum performance. These limitations have been solved with enhancements provided in Windows 95 and Windows NT.

Due to these enhancements Citect now uses the standard Digiboard drivers and we no longer supply drivers for these boards. So to setup a Digiboard serial board you now tell Citect it is a standard serial port and then setup the Digiboard in the control panel using the driver from Digiboard.

Also as the limitations of the Windows 3.x serial model have been removed in Windows 95 and Windows NT it also allows you to use any other 3rd party serial board. You are not limited to using Digiboard serial boards.

So, back to the question, what Digiboard drivers are supported under Windows 95 and Windows NT ? The answer is to ask Digiboard, which I have done and there answer is below:

  • The COM/Xi is not supported for WIN95 or WINNT.
  • The WIN95 device driver supports PC/Xe, MC/Xe, PC/Xi, Acceleport Xr, and PC/Xem (BETA)
  • The WINNT device driver supports PC/Xe, MC/Xe, PC/Xi, Acceleport Xr, PC/Xem, C/X, EPC/X.
  • We also have ISDN support for WINNT.

Windows 95 Async Device Drivers for Digi Intelligent Boards

Windows 95 device drivers are available for PC/Xe, PC/Xi, Acceleport Xe & Xr on the BBS 612-943-0550 under "Drivers""Windows""Windows95" They are also available on our ftp server. ftp.dgii.com.

A BETA device driver for the Digi PC/Xem product line will be available sometime after 18 December 1995.

Windows95 Async Device Drivers for Digi Non-intelligent Boards

Windows 95 drivers are not available at this time from Digi. The board may be installed using the Microsoft device driver as normal serial com ports. We have a driver under development but it is not yet ready for BETA testing.

Acceleport C1/C2. We will have a BETA test driver available shortly. Check our BBS or FTP site for availability.

WINDOWS NT 3.5* Device drivers

Driver support for the Digiboard intelligent boards are contained in the WINNT 3.5* operating system.

Select "Control Panel", "Network", "Add Adapter". From the list of products, select (your Digiboard product), follow the online instructions.

The latest device drivers can be found on the Digi BBS or FTP server.
