Summary:
I want to connect to some MOSCAD RTUs with Citect. What are the possibilities?

Solution:
There are three known ways to connect Citect with the Motorola Moscad RTUs (each method requires setting up the MOSCAD tables in the FIU):

a) Use Citect's MODBUS driver, which is supplied as standard with Citect. This involves the client programming an FIU (Field interface unit) to talk MODBUS.

b) Use Citect's MOSCAD driver that uses the Motorola Ethernet Gateway (ie the MCP-T gateway using TCP/IP). The gateway will be a transparent device (i.e. Individual I/O points will not have to be programmed by the client). This driver is available from Citect Support and will be included with Citect V5.30 as a standard driver. This driver will provide additional services such as:

  • poll MOSCAD RTU to get data and to get COS (Change of state) events from its tables
  • send commands by broadcast to any required group of RTUs
  • receive events by contention (data burst on event) from RTUs
  • receive time-tagged events logged in the RTUs (1ms resolution for hardware time-stamped digital inputs, scan time resolution for application time-stamped I/O)
  • adjust and read the RTU clocks
  • automatically set the gateway mode (primary/secondary)
  • receive gateway status

c) Use Citect's DNP driver. This involves the client programming an FIU (Field interface unit) to talk DNP. This driver is available from Citect Support and will be included with Citect V5.30 as a standard driver.
