Applies To:
  • CitectSCADA 5.xx, 6.xx

Summary:
The online help for "Alarms: Advanced alarm properties > Properties as Tags" is not clear. To enable the use of Alarm Tags ( eg. "Your_Alarm.On" and "Your_Alarm.Ack" ) an I/O device of type ALARM must be created, otherwise the project will not compile as the tags will not be recognised.

Note: an Alarm I/O Device must be created for Citect versions prior to V7.0.

Solution:
If you wish to be able to use Alarm Tags then the following I/O Device must exist:

Name ALARM_TAGS
Number Network wide I/O device number ( choose any number not used by another I/O device )
Address ( no address required )
Protocol ALARM ( type this in, as it does not appear in the dropdown list )
Port Name ALARM ( type this in, as it does not appear in the dropdown list )

In Citect 7.00 it is no longer necessary to create the alarm device. To enable alarm property tags, go to the Project Editor | Servers menu | Alarm Servers. Press F2 to view extended properties, and set Publish Alarm Properties to TRUE.
