Summary: |
Running a Citect project on a DEC Venturis FX-2, Pentium 200 MMX, under Windows95 causes the operating system to hang. The system does not respond to the mouse and takes several minutes to respond to keyboard input. It appears as though Citect has locked up. |
Solution: |
It has been found that this particular
hardware platform can be upset by the Sentinel Key. Replacing the
SuperPro Sentinel Key will fix the problem.
The symptom can be isolated as follows, attach the SuperPro Sentinel Key, power on, start Windows95 and type the following command in the MS-DOS prompt; c:\dir >prn. Windows95 will hang, the mouse and keyboard will not respond until DOS times out. This will only be experienced as a problem in Citect if the project is trying to print directly to LPT1.DOS device, for example printing alarms at start up. Also running the project on another brand PC or running the above platform under Windows NT operating system will not exhibit the problem. Setting the port on the PC to "compatible" mode or using the latest Sentinel driver does not fix the problem. A small number of the SuperPro Sentinel Keys were found to cause the problem, they had a raised "CE" mark on the case. The latest Keys have the "CE" mark embossed in the case. CIT has confirmed this to be a problem in Citect for Windows version 5.00. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available. |
