Summary:
I am trying to set up the SLC 5/03 1747 module using the SLC 500 Advanced Programming Software (APS) but I cannot get on line. I have tried several different baud rates and have even disconnected the battery to re-instate the default communication values. 

Solution:
Disconnecting the battery is not enough, you have to short out VBD to GND marked on the back of the circuit board. This will set the module to the default value of 1200 baud, None parity and CRC error checking.
