Summary:
Are the Advantech PCL-840 and PCL-844 serial interface cards compatible with CITECT and how do I install and set up these cards?

Solution:
Yes These cards have both been tested using Citect V5 on Windows 95 and NT4 using the Citect ComX driver.

Up to a maximum speed of 57600 Baud.

For Installation of these cards you need the installation software which is distributed with the cards and is also available on the Advantech ftp site. http://www.advantech.com.tw/techhome/tech1.htm

Windows 95 installation:

  1. Install the card (only one, if you intend to install multiple cards they must be installed individually)
  2. Run the distributed program IO-REQ. (This will program the on board EPROM to your required IO parameters.)
  3. Reboot the computer
  4. Run the distributed program SETUP95 (This is a set up wizard that installs the drivers.)
  5. Reboot the computer.
  6. If you intend to install more than one card repeat steps 1-5 for each card.

Important note: You must reboot the computer after step 2 and step 4 don't be tempted to do both steps at once and then reboot. It doesn't work.

NT installation :

  1. Install the card (only one, if you intend to install multiple cards they must be installed individually)
  2. Start your computer in DOS mode, the next step will not work under NT.
  3. Run the distributed DOS program IO-REQ. (This will program the on board EPROM to your required IO parameters.)
  4. Reboot the computer into NT
  5. Enter [Control Panel] [Network] [Adapters] Select [Add] [Have Disk] Specify the path to the distributed software.
  6. Reboot the computer.
  7. If you intend to install more than one card repeat steps 1-5 for each card.
