Summary:
This is due to the thread processing the CTAPI ctClose call waiting for an associated read thread to terminate. On a multiprocessor system, the read thread intermittently fails to terminate. ctClose waits and then after 5 minutes the deadlock mechanism times out and the processing completes. 

Solution:
CIT has confirmed this to be a problem in Citect for Windows versions 5.00 to 5.31. This problem has been fixed in version 5.40.
