Summary:
TagRead() may fail when it is used with variable tags being accessed through the OPC and DDEDRV protocol drivers. They will fail when the tag has an '[' (open square bracket) followed by a non numeric character or '0' (zero) as part of the address. 

Solution:
CIT has confirmed this to be a problem in Citect for Windows versions 3.XX to 5.XX. This problem has been fixed in version 5.21 Service Pack F.
