Applies To:
  • CitectSCADA 5.41 and above
  • CitectHMI 5.41 and above

Summary:
Since the release of CitectSCADA v5.41, when a password is entered in the Users form, an asterisk (*) is displayed for each character entered. When you save the user record, Citect encrypts the password and it is saved to the USERS.DBF file. The Users Form then masks the number of characters by filling the field with asterisks. However, when modifying or adding new records to the USERS.DBF file through Microsoft Excel, the password encryption is lost for all modified/new users. In the Users form, the asterisks are still present, but Citect does not mask the number of characters.

Solution:
To restore the encryption feature that was lost, you must set the [CTEDIT]Upgrade=1 parameter in your CITECT.INI file, close the Citect Explorer and restart it. It should ask you if you wish to upgrade all projects - click "Yes". Upgrading the project will restore the password encryption and masking to your USERS.DBF file. It is recommended that you do not do this while the project is running.
