FAQ from SafeNet website regarding how to uninstall an older version of the Sentinel driver to update to a newer version.

When i try to uninstall from Add/remove programs it gives me an error "1316.A network error while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\installer\Sentinel System Driver.msi". I've done a search for this .msi file under my entire hard drive and it does not come up.

What can i do to remove the older version and update the newest version?

We would suggest that you use the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup utility to remove the earlier version of driver from the MSI database. Please visit http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;238413  to download and install this utility. Using this program, remove the Sentinel System Driver entry from Windows installer database. Now remove the other driver related files and registry entries from your system by following these steps:

 1. Go to Control Panel-->Add/Remove Program and remove any entries related to "Sentinel System Driver". If no entry exists, proceed to next step.

2. Please make sure that the following files are no longer present in the system: sentinel.sys, sentinel.vxd, sntnlusb.sys. These files are usually found under Windows\System32\Drivers. If these files are still present in the system, make sure you rename or delete them.

3. Delete the registry entries using the registry editor. Open the registry entries and see if they are completely removed, if present remove the registry specify:

MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Sentinel MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Sntnlusb MyComputer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\Sentinel

Make sure you remove either "Sentinel" or "Sntnlusb" key entries.

4. Reboot the system.

5. Download and install the Sentinel System Driver "Sentinel Protection Installer v7.1" 7.2MB from http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp.
