Summary:

After awakening a display client from standby it takes about 5 seconds to re-establish communications, communications are fine otherwise and I am not receiving any errors.

Solution:

This problem is caused from the use of mapped network drives, the five seconds taken to reconnect the display is due to the time taken for windows to reconnect the drive. An alternative is to use UNC paths. This will eliminate the problem.
