Introduction

This paper is designed for technical people who are implementing a CitectSCADA Reports system and need to know what licenses are required for their installation from Microsoft and other 3rd party vendors.

When using CitectSCADA Reports over MS SQL Server 2000

Excel clients, Crystal Reports clients, or API clients require both MS SQL CALs and Windows operating system CALs. The MS SQL Server may use either Per Processor or Per Seat licensing for these types of clients.

CitectSCADA Reports web clients, or 3rd party IIS clients require MS SQL Server to use Per Processor licensing. No Windows operating system CALs are required.

When using Per Processor licensing, a separate license is required for each CPU in the SQL Server computer. Unlimited clients may access the system concurrently. For more information please see:

www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/production.asp

When using CitectSCADA Reports over MSDE

Excel clients, Crystal Reports clients, or API clients require Windows 2000 Server CALs only.

CitectSCADA Reports web clients, or 3rd party IIS clients do not require any Windows operating system CALs, nor do they require MS SQL CALs.

MSDE is optimized for 5 concurrent clients, and performance may degrade quickly when more clients are accessing the CitectSCADA Reports system simultaneously, however the number of concurrent clients is not restricted.

Seagate Crystal Reports

The Crystal Reports client is provided free with CitectSCADA Reports. This does not include a development license to build crystal reports. To build reports, or to customize the existing templates, users can purchase a copy of Crystal Reports.

To publish Crystal Reports in CitectSCADA Reports web server, the Seagate Web Component Service is required. Users are required to purchase a copy of Crystal Reports Developer Edition to install this service. An owner of Crystal Reports Developer Edition may freely distribute the Web Component Services on as many computers as they like, and are not required to purchase a separate copy for each installation.

Windows 2000 and Per Seat Licensing

Windows 2000 Professional allows up to 5 clients to access it (e.g. Excel client)

Windows 2000 Servers allows multiple CALs to be purchased/added to the Server.
