Summary:

It is recommended to limit the number of files in a folder for performance reasons (Q3823). How can I easily design my project with trend data files divided into multiple folders?

Solution:

There are different ways to configure your trend tags so the data files will be created in separate folders. By default, all trend tags will be saved in the Citect Data directory using the trend tag name as the filename. A path or path\filename may be specified in the Citect Project Editor | Trend Tags form. Just press F2 for extended options and fill in the File Name field. Here are three options:

1. Enter a path and filename like "[Data]:\Bldg1\Trend1". You have to be careful not to create more than one trend tag with the same path\filename...which is easy to do when adding new tags.

2. Enter a path like "[Data]:\Bldg1\". The trend tag name will automatically be used as the file name.

3. Put backslashes in the trend tag name like "Bldg1\Area2\Trend1" and leave the File Name field blank. Citect will create data files named Trend1 in the [Data]:Bldg1\Area2 folder. Note: Citect 5.50 or higher is required to support backslash characters in names.

If the trend files already exist, see Q2143 for instructions on moving them.
