Summary:
I have noticed the following error message in the syslog.dat:

Sat Mar 22 13:41:32 2008 Key Failure - Total Number of Failures 4
Software Protection Failure

What does this mean?

Solution:
CitectSCADA constantly checks that the software protection key is still inserted into the machine at runtime. If the check fails, it will retry 3 times before the key is deemed to be unavailable. At this point, CitectSCADA will shut down. If you see this message in your syslog.dat it means that CitectSCADA stopped detecting the key at that particular point. This could have been caused by a number of things, such as:
  • The protection key physically removed from the PC
  • There is a problem with USB/LPT port
  • There is a problem with Sentinel driver
  • There was a loss of network connection
  • There is a fault with the protection key

It is recommended that you investigate the above possibilities and if you continue to experience problems, contact Citect Support.
