Summary:

When using the the ABMLXEIP driver to communicate with a MicroLogix PLC via a 1761-NET-ENI module, you may notice an error in your syslog.dat similar to the one below:

Tue Jul 15 10:58:27 2008 00:23:07.485 Error: General error
  READ     0008 PORT1_BOARD1        IODev                         I1:8/0   16
  Generic 000008 Driver 00012288 (0x00003000)

This may not necessarily result in an I/O Device going offline, but you will at least be seeing intermittent #COMs in runtime and a Hardware Alarm saying General Error 3000.

Solution:

This particular error maps to the DF1 error stating the "Remote node host is missing, disconnected, or shut down". What this means is that CitectSCADA is able to communicate to the 1761-NET-ENI module without any problems, however the 1761-NET-ENI module is experiencing problems communicating with the PLC. The cause of this problem could be one of the following:

  1. The 1761-NET-ENI module
  2. The serial connection between the 1761-NET-ENI module and the PLC is faulty
  3. The actual PLC

We recommend that you investigate the above options first, making sure that all configuration is correct and not hardware is faulty. As a workaround solution, you could fine tune the ABMLXEIP citect.ini parameters to reduce the load on the module/PLC, which could either reduce the frequency of this error appearing or prevent it altogether.
