Summary:
 When Citect starts, the alarm sound gets activated as some of configured audible alarms are ON. however once I silenced the alarm system using the speaker icon: , any new alarms will not sound.

Solution:
 The basic rule is:

When alarms come on, the sound of the highest priority alarm will start. As soon as an alarm is acknowledged, or the user pushes the mute button, no more sounds will be heard until ALL the alarms are acknowledged. Once all the alarms are acknowledged, and another alarm turns on, an alarm sound will be heard again.

This might be considered not suitable. In case you want custom settings, you will have to write your own Cicode files as mentioned in KB article Q4423 "Implementing audible alarms".
