4.2.8  Determine Windows version

Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Server 2003

1.      On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.

2.      In the Run dialog box, type Winver

3.  Press the Enter key or press OK.

4.      The resulting dialog box will indicate the version of Microsoft Windows® you are using (e.g. Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Server 2003).

5.      After recording the version you are running, click OK to close the dialog box.

Windows Vista.

If you can't find the Run on the start menu, chances are you are running Windows Vista.

If you can find the Command Prompt, try this

1.      On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Command Prompt.

2.      In dialog box, type Winver

3.  Press the Enter key.

4.      The resulting dialog box will indicate the version of Microsoft Windows® you are using (e.g. Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Server 2003).

5.      After recording the version you are running, click OK to close the dialog box.

6. Close the Command Prompt window.
