To configure display symbols

  1. From the Edit menu, select Display Symbols. The Edit Display Symbols dialog box will appear. This dialog box lists all the elements in the display that are eligible to be substituted with values from a symbol file at run-time. These elements can also be added to a symbol file for the purpose of defining symbol values.

  2. To enable data source symbols:

    1. Select the Data Sources tab. A list of available data sources will appear with their default values.

    2. Enable a data source symbol by selecting the Enabled check box.

    3. Select the Show Advanced Columns check box to view the Default Values and Context columns.

    4. To rename an enabled symbol, double-click in the Symbol field and enter a new name.

  3. To enable property symbols:

    1. Select the Properties tab. A list of available properties will appear with their default values.

    2. Enable a property symbol by selecting the Enabled check box.

    3. Select the Show Advanced Columns check box to view the Context column.

    4. To rename an enabled symbol, double-click in the Symbol field and enter a new name.

  4. To enable parameter symbols:

    1. Select the Parameters tab. A list of available parameters will appear with their default values. The parameter (default) value that is shown here is generated from the parameter name and serves as a placeholder to identify the parameter – it is not a substitution value. You can substitute the parameter value, but the parameter name that is shown here cannot be substituted.

    2. Enable a parameter symbol by selecting the Enabled check box.

    3. Select the Show Advanced Columns check box to view the Context column.

    4. To rename an enabled symbol, double-click in the Symbol field and enter a new name.

  5. To create a symbol values file:

    1. Select the Defined Symbols tab to see what will be added to the symbol file.

    2. Click the Save Symbol Values File button to save the symbol file.
