Variable Charts: Data Tab

The Data tab allows you to configure the data source for the chart. The Data tab appears on all SPC chart configuration panels, and the properties are almost identical from one variable chart to the next (with minor differences).

Properties on the Data Tab (Variable Charts only)

Property

Description

Values

Data Browser

The source data for the chart.

Configure DataSource button – opens the Data Source Browser.

Data Columns

A list of the data items to be shown on the chart. These items are selected in the Data Browser. The color assigned to each item is also shown. Double-click the data column name to change it.

Color – click the color button (beside the column name) and select any color from the color palette.

SubGroupId Column

The data column to assign as a subgroup for the chart.

NOTE: When you select a category, the value is automatically removed from the Data Columns list.

Data columns as specified in the Data Browser.

Subgroup Size

The size of the subgroup.

Values vary according to chart type.

Bad Data Options:
Quality Column

NOTE: Not available for VisualSPC data sources (bad data filtering is set automatically)

Allows you to set a filter on the quality column for data sources that supply a quality column. Set the operator and value according to the bad data value in the column.

Use the Quality Column in conjunction with the Bad Data Rule list box to filter out data.

NOTE: Bad data filtering is never applied to a null value in the quality column; i.e., regardless of the type of bad data rule that is set, a null value in the quality column is always treated as `good' data

Column – available columns (dependent on data source).

Operator – mathematical operators (=, <>, >, >=, <, <=).

Value – any ASCII characters (value type is text).

Bad Data Options:
Data Column
Value

NOTE: Not available for VisualSPC data sources (bad data filtering is set automatically)

Allows you to set a filter on the chart's data column. Use in conjunction with the Bad Data Rule list box to filter out data.

Operator – mathematical operators (=, <>, >, >=, <, <=).

Value – any number (value type is numeric).

Bad Data Options:
Bad Data Rule

NOTE: Not available for VisualSPC data sources (bad data filtering is set automatically)

The bad data rule to apply to filter criteria (as set for the chart's data column).

NOTE: `Exclude Sample' is the only bad data option available for attribute charts.

NONE – do not apply a bad data rule.

Exclude Sample – the samples that meet the criteria are excluded during run-time.

Exclude SubGroup – the subgroups that consist of samples that meet the criteria are excluded during run-time

Use SubGroup Mean – samples that meet the criteria are removed from a subgroup, and when they are removed, the mean of the remaining samples (in that subgroup) is calculated and used as a substitute for the excluded samples.

Moving Length
(Moving XBar
only)

The limit for the number of subgroups that are used to calculate the average value. For example, if the moving average is set at 8, subgroups are averaged with the 8 consecutive subgroups preceding and including the plotted subgroup.

Values 2 - 20. Default value is 8.

Number of Bars
(Histogram only)

The number of bars to appear on the chart.

Values 5 - 30.

Line Width

The width of the connector line.

Values 1 through 10 – 1 is the narrowest; 10 is the widest.

Line Style

The style of the connector line.

Solid

Dash Dash

Dot Dot

Dash Dot

Dash Dot Dot

Decimal Places

The number of decimal places for displayed data (e.g. CL, UCL).

Values 0 - 7

Configure List
button

NOTE: Histogram chart only.

Allows you to customize the list of descriptive statitics that appears on the right side of a Histogram chart.

Opens the Select Statistics to Display dialog box.

Available list – all available descriptive statistics. All statistics appear on a Quick Report (when exported).

Selected list – descriptive statistics that appear on the chart during run-time.

Report Title

The title that will appear when the data is exported as a Quick Report (HTML).

Any text.

Chart Image

Indicates whether the chart image is exported when data is exported to an HTML table.

NOTE: Tool Tips will not appear in the exported chart image.

Selected – the image of the chart is exported to an HTML table.

Cleared – the image of the chart is not exported to an HTML table (only the data is exported).

Descriptive Statistics

Indicates whether the chart's descriptive statistics (e.g. LCL, UCL, CL, and so forth) are exported.

Selected – the chart's descriptive statistics are exported.

Cleared – the chart's descriptive statistics are not exported.

Summary Data

Indicates whether the summary data (e.g. subgroup mean, average) is exported.

Selected – the chart's summary data is exported.

Cleared – the chart's summary data is not exported.

Raw Data

Indicates whether the raw data (e.g. actual data values for all samples) is exported.

Selected – the chart's raw data is exported.

Cleared – the chart's raw data is not exported.
