There are several advanced options for refining ThinView's performance. You can find these options in the Advanced ThinView Options dialog box on the ThinView server.
Note: You can also refine ThinView's performance in the ThinView Options dialog box on the Windows CE device.
(If the Advanced ThinView Options dialog box is not open) click Advanced on the ThinView tab
Configure ThinView advanced options as follows.
Start CIMPLICITY. |
|
Screen update settings when no user input is received. |
|
Hold disconnect session open for ...minutes. |
|
Maximum sessions |
|
Auto logout. |
A |
Start CIMPLICITY |
Check to start CIMPLICITY, if needed, whenever a screen is requested.
This will start the CIMPLICITY server, not a CIMPLICITY project. You can start CIMPLICITY projects when the computer boots up.
B |
Screen update settings when no user input is received |
The rate at which ThinView sends updates to the client when a user is not interacting with the screen, for example, clicking a button.
Make the following entries in the Screen update setting when no user input is received box.
Field |
Description |
|
Wait (n) seconds |
ThinView should continue to send updates to the client at the normal rate. Example If you enter: |
|
|
60 |
ThinView will continue to send updates for 60 seconds at the normal (CimView) update rate. |
|
0 |
Normal (CimView) update intervals are disabled. Instead, ThinView waits the number of seconds you specify in the Then update the screen every(n) seconds field and continues to update at that specified interval. |
Then update the screen every... seconds |
ThinView will wait the number of seconds you specify before sending an update. Example If you enter: |
|
|
15 |
ThinView will slow down screen updates to every 15 seconds after it has updated at the normal rate for the number of seconds, e.g., 60 seconds, specified in the Wait (n) seconds field. |
Tip: The recommended settings for ThinView clients are:
Wait 0 seconds; Then update the screen every 2 seconds.
C |
Hold disconnect session open for...minutes |
Enter a number to specify how long CimView should hold the session open if the Windows CE temporarily loses a connection. This can happen, for example, when the Windows CE device is turned off or when it is out of range of an access point.
Note: If the Windows CE device is turned back on or brought back into range within the Hold disconnect session open time, the ThinView client will automatically reconnect to the same session and you can continue working. If the Windows CE device is turned off for longer, the ThinView client will indicate it is disconnected and you will need to establish a new connection.
D |
Maximum sessions |
Note: Maximum sessions allows the maximum number of sessions to be fine tuned to a value less than the number of licensed connections if, for performance reasons, if you find your server can not provide optimal performance with all the licensed connections.
Enter a number of sessions that is less than or equal to the number of available ThinView licenses.
When the entered number is exceeded:
A message displays alerting additional users who log on that the maximum number has been exceeded.
The connection is then lost.
E |
Auto logout |
You can help CIMPLICITY runtime users save resources by enabling automatic log out for a CIMPLICITY ThinView user.
Automatic log out will log the user out if there is no mouse or keyboard activity for a specified number of minutes. Based on the configuration selection, the user can be logged out only, prompted to log back in or another user can be logged in.
Fill in the following checkbox and field
