Limits have the task to trigger a reaction, as soon as a limit or a status is violated or reached. The limit is defined fixly in the Editor or is defined variably depending on the value of a variable in the Runtime. The kinds of reaction can be manifold. For example: Color changes, entries in alarm and chronologic event list, function calls etc. are possible. The execution of the reaction is carried out in zenon.

The configuration of limits defines the behaviour of numerical variables.

The configuration of states defines the behaviour of binary variables (low, high or 0,1).

Please bear in mind that for generality reasons in the following the term "limit" also is used for "status".

If an additional evaluation of the variable's status information is needed, this has to be realised in a reaction matrix.

More information on reaction matrices can be found in the chapter Reaction matrix.
