Summary:
I am running Citect under Windows NT and am getting the error "Registry Error <xx> upon Create the WinRT Key." What does this mean and how can I correct it?

Solution:
When you are using propriety cards with Citect Version 4.xx, a the WinRT driver is used. For correct operation of this driver Citect needs to write to the registry. However, if you try and run Citect in Windows NT and the current user does not have administrative rights then you will get the above error. This problem may also be reported with the errors "Load device (wrtdev0.vxd):Error 'Access is denied'" or "WinRT: Open Service: 'Access is denied'"

This can be corrected by using the following procedure. Log on to Windows NT as Administrator and then run REGEDT32.EXE to edit the registry. Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinRT

Then set the permission's of this key changing the EVERYONE user from READ to FULL CONTROL. Make sure that the "Replace permission's on existing subkeys" check box is selected. Chose OK. After you do this then Citect will be able to be run by all users.

CIT has confirmed this to be a problem in Citect for Windows version 4.10. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
