3.2.17         Alarm Voice

Text-to-Speech technology Annunciates alarms locally on the SCADA node and on a web-browser Client connected to that SCADA node.

A choice of male and female voices reads the Tag name, Description, Alarm Type, Alarm Limit and Alarm Value.   No recording is required by the user.

A sound card and speaker is required.

There are multiple voices: Microsoft Mike, Microsoft Mary, Mike for Telephone, Adult Male American English 1, etc.  Nine are supplied standard with WebAccess SCADA node software. Any Microsoft supplied voice can be used that you download from Microsoft or install from a Microsoft CD.

The Text-to-Speech annunciator will announce Alarms on the local SCADA Node even if ViewDAQ is closed or minimized, as long as the SCADA node is running. The web Browser must be connected to the SCADA node for the Voice to annunciate on a Client.

The Alarm Voice annunciates the Alarm only once when it occurs. It does not repeat if the Alarm remains unacknowledged.

Hint - Use a Global Script to play a Wave or MIDI or other MCI file to repeat Alarm Annunciation if Alarms remain Unacknowledged

There are three required files for the USA version (other languages may require more):

  1. tv_enua.exe

  2. spchapi.exe

  3. Speech.msi

These files are installed automatically with the SCADA Node Software.

The Text to Alarm software must be installed on the Client manually.  You can get these files from the WebAccess CD-ROM. Alternatively, these files can be copied from a SCADA Node from drive:\WebAccess\Node\Speech. The Plug-in does not install these files.

An Alarm Voice must be chosen in SCADA Node Properties to enable Text-to-Speech Alarm Annunciation.
