Data Tab in the Time, XY, and Event Charts

The following fields are available on the Data tab of Time, XY, and Event charts.

Pens

The Pens available to the chart from the selected data source.

Load Pen Group - displays the Load Pen Group browser.

Save Pen Group - displays the Save Pen Group browser.

Move Selected Item Up - moves the selected item up one position.

Move Selected Item Down - moves the selected item down one position.

Any column available to the chart from the data source.

Configure the pens using the additional tabs on the Data tab.

Data Sources

The data sources used by a chart.

Add button – displays the Data Source Browser. See Data Source Browser Properties.

Delete button – removes the selected data source.

Configure Expression button – displays the Expression Builder. See Expression Builder Properties.

Advanced Settings button – displays the Advanced Settings dialog box. See Advanced Settings Properties.

X Axis

NOTE: XY
chart only.

Specifies the X axis to configure.

Values according to the data source that has been selected.

Events

NOTE: Event chart only.

Specifies the event configured on the Events tab.

Values according to the event that has been selected.

Apply Tab
button

Applies properties of the selected tab to all pens.

NOTE: Does not apply trend buffer settings (Options tab).

Applies properties on all tabs to all pens.

For the Time, XY, and Event charts, there are six additional tabs within the Data tab:

Pen Tab (Data Tab)

The fields on the Pen tab allow you to configure the appearance and properties of the selected pen.

High Limit

Time or Event Chart – the y axis high limit for the selected data source.

XY chart – the high limit for the selected pen.

Depends on the available data.

To use the limits included in the data source, select the Fetch Limits check box.

Low Limit

Time or Event Chart – the y axis low limit for the selected data source.

XY chart – the low limit for the selected pen.

Depends on the available data.

To use the limits included in the data source, select the Fetch Limits check box.

Decimal Places

The number of decimal places to display for data source values.

0 to 7 decimal places.

Default is 0 decimal places.

Fetch Limits

Indicates whether to set the limits on the y-axis to match the limits of the data source.

Selected – sets the limits to match the data source limits.

Cleared – uses specified or auto limits.

Auto Limits

Indicates whether to set the high and low limits on the y-axis to match the minimum and maximum values of the data retrieved.

Selected – sets the limits to match the values retrieved from the data source.

Cleared – uses specified or fetch limits.

Show Line

Indicates whether to show the trend line for the selected data source. Available for time charts, event charts, and y axis pens in an XY chart.

Selected – shows the line.

Cleared – hides the line.

NOTE: In XY charts, the line drawn is not a trend line. It is a line that best fits the plotted data.

Hide Pen

Indicates whether the selected pen will be displayed on the chart.

Selected – the selected pen is hidden.

Cleared – the selected pen displays on the chart.

Constant Line

NOTE: Time and
Event charts only.

Indicates whether to display a constant horizontal line at the current value of the selected data source or a line based on the historical value of the data source.

Selected – constant horizontal line.

Cleared – line based on the historical value of the data source.

Show Gaps

NOTE: Time and
Event charts only.

Indicates whether to show a blank space to represent an area in a plot where there is no data.

Selected – shows blank spaces.

Cleared – hides blank spaces in the trend.

String Data

NOTE: Time and
Event charts only.

Indicates whether the incoming data is string data instead of floating point data.

This field is always unavailable.

Selected – treat as string values.

Cleared – pen that uses numeric data.

Sort Options

NOTE: Time and
Event charts only.

Specifies how to sort and display string data. This field is available only for string data.

Not Sorted – data appears in the order it was received.

Ascending – data appears sorted from A to Z.

Descending – data appears sorted from Z to A.

Line Style

The style of the selected pen's trend line. In an XY chart, this field is available for y axis pens only.   

Solid – a solid pen line style.

Dash Dash – a dashed pen line style.

Dot Dot – a dotted pen line style.

Dash Dot – a dash-dot combination line style.

Dash Dot Dot – a dash-dot-dot combination line style.

Color
button

The color of the selected pen's trend line.

Select a color from the color palette.

Line Width

The width (in pixels) of the selected pen's trend line. In an XY chart, this field is available for y axis pens only.

1 to 9 pixels.

Marker Style

Specifies a style for the pen's marker. In an XY chart, this field is available for y axis pens only.

Character – accompanied by a text box to enter the specific character you want to display as a marker.

Fill

Indicates whether to fill the pen's marker with the selected line color.

In an XY chart, this field is available for y axis pens only.

Selected – filled with the selected line color.

Cleared – hollow pen marker.

Marker Spacing

NOTE: Time and
Event charts only.

The spacing between pen markers. For example, setting this field to one provides a marker for every data point in the trend.

This field is available for time and event charts, but not for XY charts.

1 to 100 data points.

Default is 10 data points.

Bad Data Color
button

NOTE: Time and
Event charts only.

The color bad data displays in.

This button is available for time and event charts, but not for XY charts.

Select a color from the color palette.

Options Tab (Data Tab)

The fields on the Options tab allow you to set the alarm information for the selected data source.

High Alarm Limit

Specifies a number that triggers a change in the color of the y axis line if the y value is above this limit.

Any number.

Low Alarm Limit

Specifies a number that triggers a change in the color of the y axis line if the y value falls below this limit.

Any number.

Enable Alarm

Indicates whether the alarm indication is enabled.

Selected – alarm notification is on.

Cleared – alarm notification is off.

Alarm Line Color
button

The color the y axis line will become when the y value is outside of the set limits.

Select a color from the color palette.

Strategy

NOTE: For Time and XY charts using real time data sources.

Specifies the type of strategy to use for trend buffering. Trend buffers are used to hold real time data points as they are sent to a chart for plotting.

All Points – holds the points for a specified duration.

Interval – holds a specified number of points per given time interval. When a point has been added for a defined interval, any additional points that come in during the same interval are dropped.

Duration

NOTE: For Time and XY charts using real time data sources.

Specifies the number of seconds the real time points will be held in the buffer before they are plotted on the chart.

Any number. The default is 60.

Max Points

NOTE: For Time and XY charts using real time data sources.

Specifies the maximum number of points that will be held for the entered duration. When a point has been added for a defined interval, any additional points that come in during the same interval are dropped.

Any number. The default is 15.

X Axis Tab (Data Tab)

The fields on the X Axis tab allow you to configure the appearance of the x axis for the selected pen. In time and event charts, the x axis shows the time. In an XY chart, the x axis is a process value, such as temperature or pressure. You can configure the properties on this tab only when you select the x axis pen.

Labels

The number of labels shown on the x axis.

NOTE: If the Same As Labels check box is selected, this field also defines the number of major ticks to display.

0 to 100 labels.

Default is 11 labels.

Major Ticks

The number of major ticks displayed on the x axis.

NOTE: If the Same As Labels check box is selected, this field is disabled.

0 to 100 major ticks.

Default is 7 major ticks.

Minor Ticks

The number of minor ticks displayed between major ticks on the x axis.

0 to 100 minor ticks.

Default is 9 minor ticks.

Show Axis

Indicates whether to show the x axis and its title in the chart.

Selected – shows the x axis and its title.

Cleared – hides the x axis and its title.

Same As Labels

Indicates whether to make the number of major ticks on the x axis equal to the number of time labels.

Selected – number of major ticks is the same as the labels.

Cleared – displays a different number of labels and major ticks.

Orientation

The position on the chart for the x axis line.

Top – the top of the chart. (Default)

Bottom – the bottom of the chart, above the legend.

Axis Color
button

The color of the x axis line and tick marks.

Select a color from the color palette.

Axis Title

The title for the x axis.

This property is available in the Time and Event charts.

Any text/numbers.

Show Title

Indicates whether the x axis title is shown.

Selected – shows the title.

Cleared – hides the title.

Decimal Places

NOTE: Shown only if the x axis values are numeric.

The number of decimal places to display on the x axis.

7 decimal points is the maximum number.

Use Scientific Notation

NOTE: Shown only if the x axis values are numeric.

Indicates whether the values on the x axis are displayed with exponents.

Selected – shows exponents.

Cleared – hides exponents.

Date Format

NOTE: Time-based x axis only.

Specifies the date format to be used on the x axis. Available only if the Show Date check box is selected.

Various date format values.

Time Format

NOTE: Time-based x axis only.

Specifies the time format to be used on the x axis. Available only if the Normalize check box is cleared.

Various time format values.

Show Date

NOTE: Time-based x axis only.

Indicates whether the date will be shown on the x axis. The date is shown under the time for each major tick.

Selected – shows the date on the x axis.

Cleared – hides the date on the x axis.

Normalize

NOTE: Time-based x axis only.

Indicates whether to set the start time to 0.

Selected – sets the time on the x axis to 0.

Cleared – sets the time on the x axis according to the time settings on the data source.

Y Axis Tab (Data Tab)

In an XY chart, this tab is only available when you select a y axis pen.

Properties on the Y Axis Tab (Data Tab)

The number of labels shown on the y axis.

NOTE: If the Same As Labels check box is selected, this field also defines the number of major ticks to display.

Major Ticks

The number of major ticks displayed on the y axis.

NOTE: If the Same As Labels check box is selected, this field is disabled.

0 to 100 major ticks.

Default is 7 major ticks.

Minor Ticks

The number of minor ticks displayed between major ticks on the y axis.

0 to 100 minor ticks.

Default is 9 minor ticks.

Show Axis

Indicates whether to show the y axis and its title in the chart.

Selected – shows the y axis and its title.

Cleared – hides the y axis and its title.

Same As Labels

Indicates whether to make the number of major ticks on the y axis equal to the number of labels.

Selected – number of major ticks is the same as the labels.

Cleared – displays a different number of labels and major ticks.

Use Tag Name

Indicates whether to use the pen's tag name as the axis title.

Selected – the pen's tag name is used as the axis title.

Cleared – the axis title is as specified in the Axis Title field.

Orientation

The side of the chart for the y axis line

Left – the left side of the chart. (Default)

Right – the right side of the chart.

Axis Color
button

The color of the y axis line and tick marks.

Select a color from the color palette.

Axis Title

The title for the y axis. This field is not available if the Use Tag Name check box is selected.

Any text/numbers.

Show Title

Indicates whether the y axis title is shown.

Selected – shows the title.

Cleared – hides the title.

NOTE: This field is available if the data type is numeric.

Grid Tab (Data Tab)

The fields on the Grid tab allow you to set the properties for the horizontal grid and the vertical grid. The fields for both horizontal and vertical are identical.

Cleared – places grid lines according to other set options.

Draw Line

Ticks

Indicates whether grid lines are displayed at minor ticks.

Selected – places grid lines at minor ticks.

Cleared – places grid lines according to other set options.

Number of
Lines

Specifies the number of grid lines to display.

NOTE: This field is available for entry only if neither the Draw Line at Major Ticks nor the Draw Line at Minor Ticks check boxes are selected.

Any number from 1 to 100.

Grid Color
button

Specifies the line color of the grid.

Select a color from the color palette.

Grid Style

Specifies the style of the grid line.

Solid – a solid pen line style.

Dash Dash – a dashed pen line style.

Dot Dot – a dotted pen line style.

Dash Dot – a dash-dot combination line style.

Dash Dot Dot – a dash-dot-dot combination line style.

Tool Tips Tab (Data Tab)

The fields on the Tool Tips tab allow you to configure the appearance of and information that appears in Tool Tips.

Foreground
Color button

The color for the Tool Tip text.

NOTE: Available only if the Use Pen Line Color check box is cleared.

Select a color from the color palette.

Use Pen
Color

Indicates whether to use the color that is selected as the line color on the Pens tab as the Tool Tip text color.

Selected – the pen line color is used as the text color of the Tool Tip.

Cleared – the text color of the Tool Tip can be changed.

Background
Color button

The color for the background of the Tool Tip.

NOTE: Available only if the Use Chart Background Color check box is cleared.

Select a color from the color palette.

Use Chart
Color

Indicates whether to use the color that is selected as the chart background color as the background for the Tool Tip.

Selected – the chart background color is used for the Tool Tip background color.

Cleared – the Tool Tip background color can be changed.

Use Pen
Color

Indicates whether to use the color that is selected as the line color on the Pens tab for the Tool Tip border color.

Selected – the line color is used for the Tool Tip border color.

Cleared – the Tool Tip border color can be changed.

Border Color
button

The color for the Tool Tip's border.

NOTE: Available only if the Use Pen Line Color check box is cleared.

Select a color from the color palette.

Decimal Places

Specifies the number of decimal places for a value displayed in the Tool Tip.

NOTE: Available only if the Show Y Value in Tool Tip check box is selected.

Any number from 0-7.

Show Y Value

Indicates whether to display the y value in the Tool Tip.

Selected – the y value is shown in the Tool Tip.

Cleared – the y value is not shown in the Tool Tip.

Date Format

Specifies the date format for the date displayed in the Tool Tip.

NOTE: Available only if the Show Date in Tool Tip check box is selected.

Various date formats.

Show Date

Indicates whether to display the date in the Tool Tip.

Selected – the date is shown in the Tool Tip.

Cleared – the date is not shown in the Tool Tip.

Time Format

Specifies the time format for the date displayed in the Tool Tip.

NOTE: Available only if the Show Time in Tool Tip check box is selected.

Various time formats.

Indicates whether to display the time in the Tool Tip.
