Variable Charts: Chart Tab

The Chart tab allows you to configure Tool Tip and Control Limit options. The Chart tab appears on all SPC chart configuration panels, and the properties are almost identical from one variable chart to the next, with the exception of the Histogram chart. For information on the Histogram chart properties, refer to the section Histogram chart properties.

Control Limits:
Calculated From
Data

Indicates that the control limits will be calculated from the sample data.

Sigma Limit – a value (1.0 to 5.0) that indicates the number of equal parts (one standard deviation each) that can appear from the center line before the system is considered unstable. For example, if the sigma limit is 3, then a point on the chart must be more than 3 standard deviations from the average (center line) to be considered out of control.

Control Limits:
Specified

Indicates that control limits are derived from data sources or are set as specific values for upper control limit (UCL), center line (CL), and lower control limit (LCL).

Constant – allows you to specify values for UCL, CL, and LCL.

Data Source – values for UCL, CL, and LCL are specified from a data source.

NOTE: For the XBar-R chart, specify limits for both XBar and Range controls. For the XBar-S chart, specify limits for both XBar and Sigma controls.

Control Limits:
Based on Mean
& Sigma

NOTE: For Range, Sigma, and Moving Range charts this option button is labeled `Based on Sigma' and the mean is not included.

Indicates that mean and standard deviation values are derived from data sources or are set as specific values.

Constant – allows you to specify values for mean and standard deviation.

Data Source – values for mean and standard deviation are specified from a data source.

Sigma Limit – see Control Limits: Calculated From Data (above) for a definition of sigma limit.

Control Limits: From VisualSPC Connector

Indicates that the control limits are derived from the VisualSPC connector.

If the data source is from a VisualSPC connector, this option is the default.
