To configure a y axis pen

This procedure applies to XY and Correlation charts only.

  1. If you have not already done so, insert a chart by selecting it from the Insert menu, or double-click an existing chart to access the chart's configuration panel.

  2. Select the Data tab.

  3. After entering the data source on the chart's Data tab, select the pen you want to configure.

  4. Configure the pen's general properties:

    • On the Pen tab, either enter the high and low limits, or select the Auto Limits check box to have the limits set according to the data source's highest and lowest values.

    • If you want high and low limits to be retrieved automatically at run-time, select the Fetch Limits check box.

    • In the Decimal Places box, enter the number of decimals for pen values.

    • To show the pen's trend line, select the Show Line check box.

    • Configure the pen line options:

      • From the Line Style list box, select the style for the line.

      • From the Marker Style list box, select the shape for the marker. If you want the marker to be filled, select the Fill check box.

      • To change the color of the line, click the Color button and select from the color palette.

      • To change the line width, enter a number from 1 to 9 in the Line Width box (9 is the widest line).

  5. Configure the pen's y axis:

    • On the Y Axis tab, ensure the Show Axis tab check box is selected.

    • In the Number of Labels field, enter the number of labels to show on the y axis.

    • If you want the same number of major tick marks as the set number of labels, select the Same As Labels check box. If you want the number of major tick marks to be different than the number of labels, clear the Same As Labels check box and enter the number in the Major Ticks box.

    • In the Minor Ticks box, enter the number of minor ticks to show on the y axis.

    • From the Orientation list box, select the orientation of the y axis (Left or Right).

    • To change the color of the y axis line and tick marks, click the Axis Color button and select from the color palette.

    • To show a title on the y axis title, select the Show Title check box, and enter the title in the Axis Title box. If you want to use the pen's tag name as the axis title, select the Use Tag Name check box.

    • In the Numeric Axis Options section, enter the number of decimal places for numeric labels on the y axis.

    • If you want the numeric labels to be shown with exponents, select the Use Scientific Notation check box.

  6. Configure the pen's grid options:

    • On the Grid tab, select the Show check box (in the Horizontal Grid section) to show the y axis grid.

    • Select the Draw Lines at Major Ticks check box if you want a line at each major tick mark.

    • Select the Draw Lines at Minor Ticks check box if you want a line at each minor tick mark.

    • If you do not want lines drawn at major nor minor tick marks, make sure the check boxes for these options are cleared and enter the number of lines in the Number of Lines box.

    • To change the color of the grid, click the Grid Color button and select from the color palette.

    • To change the style of the grid lines, select an option from the Grid Style list box.

  7. Specify Tool Tips settings:

    • Foreground Color (Tool Tip text color) – select the Use Pen Color check box to set the text color to be the same as the pen color, or clear this check box and click the Foreground Color button to select a color from the color palette.

    • Background Color – select the Use Chart Background Color check box to set the background color to be the same as the chart background color, or clear this check box and click the Background Color button to select a color from the color palette.

    • Border Color – select the Use Pen Color check box to set the Tool Tip border color to be the same as the pen color, or clear this check box and click the Border Color button to select a color from the color palette.

    • If you want to show the y value in Tool Tips, select the Show Y Value in Tool Tips check box.

    • For the y value, in the Decimal Places box, enter the number of decimal places to show in the Tool Tip.

    • If you want to show the x value in Tool Tips, select the Show X Value in Tool Tips check box.
