NOTE: As you make changes to the chart's background settings, a sample of your changes can be viewed on the right side of the dialog box.
If you have not already done so, insert a chart by selecting it from the Insert menu, or double-click an existing chart to access the chart's configuration panel.
Select the General tab.
From the Background mode list box, select the type of background for the chart (e.g. a solid color, an image).
If you selected Solid as a background mode, click the Chart Color button to select a background color from the color palette.
If you selected Gradient Paint as a background mode, click the Start Gradient button to select the color the gradient will begin with. Click the End Gradient button to select the color the gradient will end with.
To change the direction of the gradient, select an option from the Gradient Direction list box.
If you selected Image as a background mode, click the Select Image button to open the Image Configuration dialog box and select the image to use as a background.
To set the plot area color, clear the Plot Transparent check box, and click the Plot Color button to select a color for the background of the chart's plotted area.
To set the plot border color, select the Show Plot Border check box, and click the Plot Border button to select a color for the border of the chart's plotted area.
