To customize a chart's legend

The Time, XY, Event, and Correlation charts use the same Legend configuration settings.

  1. If you have not already done so, insert a chart by selecting it from the Insert menu, or double-click an existing chart to access the chart's configuration panel.

  2. Access the Legend tab.

  3. Select the Show Legend check box to display the legend on the chart.

  4. From the Orientation list box, select Top or Bottom depending on where you want the legend to appear on the chart.

  5. Select the Transparent check box if you want the background color of the legend to match the background color of the chart.

  6. NOTE: If you want to change the background color of the legend, clear the Transparent check box.

  7. From the Font Size list box, select the size of the font for text in the legend.

  8. In the Columns to Display area, select the items you want to include in the legend. For example, to include engineering units in the legend, select the Eng Units check box.

  9. To rearrange the order of columns in the legend, select a column in the Order list box and click the Up or Down arrows to move the column.

  10. Select the Style Options tab to configure the legend's appearance.

  11. Select a color for the legend's text:

Select the Use Pen Line Color check box to set the color of the legend's text to match the chart's pen color. To use a different color, clear the check box and click the Foreground Color button. Select a color from the color palette.

  1. Select a color for the legend's background color:

Select the Use Plot Background Color check box to set the legend's background color to match the color of the chart's plotting area. To use a different color, clear the check box and click the Background Color button. Select a color from the color palette.

  1. Select the text color of the data source selected in the legend:

Select the Use Pen Line Color check box to set the text color of the selected data source to match the chart's pen color. To use a different color, clear the check box and click the Foreground Highlight Color button. Select a color from the color palette.

  1. Select the background cell color of the selected row in the legend:

Select the Use Plot Background Color check box to set the background cell color of the selected row to match the color of the chart's plotting area. To use a different color, clear the check box and click the Background Highlight Color button. Select a color from the color palette.

  1. Select the legend's header text color:

Select the Use Title Foreground Color check box to set the text color of the column header to match the color of the chart's title text. To use a different color, clear the check box and click the Header Foreground Color button. Select a color from the color palette.

  1. Select the legend's header background color:

Select the Use Chart Background Color check box to set the background color of the column header to match the background color of the chart. To use a different color, clear the check box and click the Header Background Color button. Select a color from the color palette.

  1. Select the Enable Row Scrolling check box to set a vertical scroll bar in the legend. In the Maximum Rows Displayed box, enter the maximum number of rows to appear in the legend. If there are more rows than this number, the scroll bar appears.

  2. Select the Hide Legend Header check box if you want to hide the column header row.

  3. Select the Display Selected Row Bold check box if you want a row to appear in bold text when it is selected.

  4. Select the Show Icons check box if you want a pen's marker icon to display in the legend.
