Many objects within Proficy Portal have the ability to associate templates, which govern an object's appearance and general configuration.
By creating a template, you reduce the amount of time needed to configure the appearance of an object across multiple displays. In conjunction with symbols, display creation time can be cut drastically.
Templates can be used for the following:
All types of charts
Grid and Historian Grid
Alarm Analysis
List Box, Combo Box, and Text Box controls
Datalink
Templates are used mainly when objects are inserted using the Natural Presentation method. See Dragging and Dropping Data Sources (Natural Presentation) for more information.
Thumbnail objects and the Quick Analysis feature, used with shape objects and datalinks, also rely on templates. When you configure a Thumbnail object as a chart or grid, you must specify a template for the chart or grid. When the Thumbnail is selected in the run-time environment, the template is loaded with the associated object. The Quick Analysis feature is similar to the Thumbnail, in that you must set a template for the grid or chart. When Quick Analysis is used in the run-time environment, the template is loaded with the object used to perform analysis.
Default templates are defined for each object that uses templates. For more information on setting default templates, see Component Preferences.
You can create new templates, make changes to templates, and apply templates quickly and easily. For detailed information, see the following:
