Prerequisited is a TCP/IP-network that supplies the connection of the single stations. Additionally the name resolution has to function via DNS, WINS or local LMHosts files.

The following operating systems are recommended in the following sequence:

Windows XP

Windows 2000 (SP 2 or higher)

Windows Server 2003

You can check the reliability of your network – as zenon needs it - with the command:

C:\\ping COMPUTERNAME

If an error message occurs after entering this command please contact your network administrator.

The response of all computers must be the same as far as the syntax is concerned. I.e. either all computers respond with the domain name following the computer name after a dot or none does.

Additionally the computer name is case sensitive! In the configuration of zenon the computer name has to be entered exactly as it appears in the response of the ping command.

The presence of the network computers in the Windows Explorer alone is not enough to guarantee the functioning of the zenon network, as here other mechanisms (broadcasts) are used.

zenon uses the following TCP-port in the network:

Service

File

Range

TCP-port

Net-service

zenNetSrv.exe

Communication with the Runtime

1100

Sys-service

zenSysSrv.exe

Data transfer via Remote Transport (Editor)

1101

Proxy-service

Communication via WEB-server functionality

1102

For the communication within zenon only TCP-ports are used, and no UDP-ports.
