Adding an iHistorian Data Source    

With the Portal Administration application, you can configure a Historian server as a Proficy Portal data source by opening the Historical folder and selecting the iHistorian node. The Administration application displays the following fields:

Property

Description

Logical Name

Specifies the name for the data source. This name need not be the actual name of the Historian server you are connecting to.

Server

Specifies the name of the Historian server you want to connect to.

User Name

Specifies the user name for the selected Historian server. The Proficy Portal server uses this name when retrieving data from the selected Historian server that has security enabled.

Password

Specifies the password for the selected Historian server. The Proficy Portal server uses this password when retrieving data from the selected Historian server that has security enabled.

Domain

Specifies the domain for the selected Historian server. The Proficy Portal server uses this domain name when retrieving data from the selected Historian server that has security enabled.

Retrieve Mode

Specifies the default method of data retrieval that is used by this data source. For more information, see Data Point Interval and the Retrieval Mode and Retrieval Mode Supported Objects.

Time Zone

Specifies the default time zone used by this data source. For more information, see Time Zones.

 
iHistorian Data Source Properties: Time Defaults

Description

Start Time

Specifies the default start time for this data source. Select either a fixed date/time, or a relative date/time. For more information, see Time Criteria.

Time Span

Specifies the default time span for this data source. The time span is the amount of time from the start time that the data will be retrieved for.

Sampling Interval

Specifies the default sampling type that will be used by this data source. If you select Interval, also specify the data point interval (the time property that controls data sampling). If you select Number of Samples, also specify the number of samples to be returned. For more information, see Sampling Interval.

Samples

Specifies the default number of samples retrieved by this data source (when the sampling type Number of Samples is used).

Data Point Interval

Specifies the default time to set for the sampling interval for this data source. For more information, see Data Point Interval and the Retrieval Mode.

To add an iHistorian data source

  1. In the Proficy Portal client application, click the Administration button on the main toolbar. The Administration application appears.

  2. Click the Connectors & Data Sources button. A directory tree appears.

  3. Expand the Historical folder and click the iHistorian node in this folder. The Add New iHistorian Data Source window appears.

  4. In the Logical Name box, enter the name of the data source.

  5. On the Configure tab, in the Server box, enter the name of the Historian server you are connecting to.

  6. In the User Name box, enter the user name you will connect to the Historian server with.

  7. In the Password box, enter the password you will connect to the Historian server with.

  8. In the Domain box, enter the name of the server domain you will be connecting to.

  9. If you want to change the default configuration settings for this data source, refer to To configure iHistorian data source defaults.

  10. Click the Apply button to save your changes. The Test, Copy, Remove, and Reset Browse Cache buttons appear.

  11. Click the Test button to see if your connection is functioning properly. You will receive a message that the data source test passed or that it failed. If the test passed, you are ready to retrieve data. If the test failed, refer to Verifying a Historian Connection.

To configure iHistorian data source defaults

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Proficy Portal client application, click the Administration button on the main toolbar. The Administration application appears.

  2. Click the Connectors & Data Sources button. A directory tree appears.

  3. Expand the Historical folder and click the data source that you want to configure defaults for.

  4. Click the General Defaults tab and make the necessary changes:

    • From the Retrieve Mode list, select the retrieval method this data source will use.

    • From the Time Zone list, select the default time zone for this data source.

  5. Click the Time Defaults tab and make the necessary changes:

  6. NOTE: The date and time associated with the fixed date and fixed time are not configurable default settings.

    • To specify a relative date and time (for example, 1 day and 3 hours before now):

      • Clear the Fixed Date check box and enter the number of days in the Days box.

      • Clear the Fixed Time check box and enter the number of hours, minutes, seconds, and/or milliseconds in the respective boxes.

    TIP: You can enter a fixed date/relative time, or a relative date/fixed time if necessary. For example, you could enter a relative date of 1 day before now, and select the Fixed Date check box (you cannot change the fixed date default).

  7. To specify the time span (the amount of time from the start time that the data will be retrieved for), enter amounts in the Days, Hours, Minutes, Seconds, and/or Millisecs boxes.

  8. If you want to change the type of sampling interval:

    • If you select Interval, specify the data point interval (the time property that controls the data sampling). Enter amounts of time in the Hours, Minutes, Seconds, and/or Millisecs boxes.

NOTE: The Advanced Items tab of the Edit Source/Configure New Object dialog box is not available to set defaults for. This is where the Historian fields to be displayed are selected.
