To connect a variable to a parameter

From the Edit menu, choose Variable Connections.

Right-click in an empty area of the display and choose Variable Connections.
The Variable Connections dialog box appears.
Expand either the system or display folder to see a list of the available variables.
Select the variable you want to connect and click Next. You will see a dialog box similar to the Parameter Connections dialog.
Select the variable in the Source properties box and click the 
Add
button. The Select a parameter dialog box
appears.
Select the parameter you want to connect the variable to and click OK.
On the Variable Connections dialog box, click Finish.
