To configure a VisualSPC data source

You can access the VisualSPC data source configuration windows in the following ways:

The configuration options will vary depending on whether parts or characteristics are used. Select the procedure specific to your needs:

Configure for Parts | Configure for Data Tables | Parts Field Descriptions | Data Table Field Descriptions

Configure for Parts

  1. Select All, By Last n Subgroups, Use Summary Statistics, or By Date/Time for the method of database query.

    • If you select By Last n Subgroups, enter the number of subgroups to be returned by the database query.

    • If you select Use Summary Statistics, then source data from the FirstSGDateTime to the LastSGDateTime is returned for a specific station. This option is useful when you are linking data from a Summary Statistics grid (data is filtered based on the statistics window Date/Time). Since Summary Statistics are calculated based on each individual Station, if this option is selected without being linked with ID, you must specify a Station filter to ensure the most current window from that station is being used. If the Station filter is not specified, the first StationName is used.

    • If you select By Date/Time, you must also select Absolute, Relative, or Range and the associated values in the Start/End or Range fields.

  2. To set a filter, from the Where list box, select the category name you want to filter by.

    1. From the Relationship list box, select the operator to use for the filter you want to set.

    2. From the Value list box, select the category value to use for the filter, or select the Constant check box and enter a value (the Value list box changes to a text box).

    3. Click the Add button to add the filter you have configured.

  3. Click OK (or Finish in Natural Presentation).

Parts Field Descriptions

The Configure New Object (VisualSPC) dialog box has the following fields:

Parts Field Descriptions

Property

Description

All

Specifies that the database query will return all the information for the part and characteristic in the ShopFloor SPC database.

By Last n Subgroups

Indicates that the database query will return data for a specified number of subgroups. Enter the number of subgroups in the box provided.

Use Summary Statistics

Indicates that the start and end times from the summary statistics table will be used.

IMPORTANT: The Use Summary Statistics option should be used only when linking from a Summary Statistics grid. This option will return source data from the FirstSGDateTime to the LastSGDateTime for a specific station. This Date/Time range is the most current window of data collected for a specific station.

By Date/Time

Indicates that the database query will return data based on the start/end times specified.

  • Absolute – indicates that specific start and end times are used. Use the ellipsis buttons beside the Start/End fields to enter the times.

  • Relative – indicates that start/end times are relative. For example, you can set a start time of 30 minutes ago and an end time of current. Use the Start and End list boxes to select relative values.

  • Range – indicates that the start/end times are a range value, such as 12 hours ago. Use the Range list box to select the range.

Filter Selection

Displays the filtering options. Use the fields and buttons below this section to set filters.

Where

Indicates the category name you want to configure a filter for. The list box shows all category names in the Trace table in the ShopFloor SPC database, and a standard set: SubgroupIx, StationID, and Month.

Relationship

Indicates the operator you want to use to filter the part characteristic.

Value

Indicates the selected parts' category value in the Trace table that is used for filtering.

Constant – when selected, allows you to enter a database value (in the Value text box) to be used as a constant in the query.

Add

Use this button to Add the filter string to the Filter Selection list.

Remove

Use this button to Remove the filter string.

Configure for Data Tables

If you are configuring a Characteristics Data Table:

  1. Select the characteristic type (All, Attribute, Defect, or Variable). This will depend on what the characteristic table is being used for. For example, if you want to use the characteristic table with a parts source that is Variable, you should choose the Variable option.

  2. Select the Data Column for the characteristic table (ID, PartCharID, or None). This will also depend on what the characteristic table is being used for. For example, if you insert a grid and select the PartCharID column, the grid will display data for the CharacteristicName and PartCharID columns.

  3. Enter filters for Station and/or Part Name, as required. Filtering is optional. For an example of the types of filter expressions that can be used, see Filtering.

  4. Click OK (or Finish in Natural Presentation).

If you are configuring a Parts Data Table:

  1. Enter filters for the Station and/or Part Name Filter, as required. Filtering is optional. For an example of the types of filter expressions that can be used, see Filtering.

  2. Click OK (or Finish in Natural Presentation).

If you are configuring a Stations Data Table:

There are no input parameters associated with Stations, and therefore, configuration is not required.

  1. Click OK (or Finish in Natural Presentation).

If you are configuring a Summary Statistics Data Table:

  1. Enter the filters for Station Filter/Part Name Filter and/or Characteristic Name Filter, as required. Filtering is optional. For an example of the types of filter expressions that can be used, see Filtering.

  2. Click OK (or Finish in Natural Presentation).
