To select a data source from the Data Source Browser

  1. On an object's configuration panel, select the Configure Data Source button. The Data Source Browser appears. The available data source types appear in a tree.

  2. Select the data source from the data sources tree. The data items associated with the data source appear in the right pane.

    • If you want to filter the data source tree, select the data source type in the tree and in the Tree Options section, select a filter condition from the list box, or enter a filter condition. Click the Apply button to apply the filter. See Filtering for more information.

NOTE: If you want to make sure the most up-to-date data item list is displayed, click the Refresh button.

  3. Select the data item from the data items list.

    • If you have selected a data source that supports views, you can customize the data item information that appears in the data item list by selecting an option from the Views drop-down list. For example, if you are selecting an iHistorian data source, you can select to show the data item's tag and description, tag only, or description only.

    • If you want to filter the data items list, select a column to apply the filter to (if the data source items have columns). For example, if you are selecting an iHistorian data source, you can select Tag or Description to apply a filter to.

    • To filter the data items list, select a filter condition from the Filter Data items drop-down list, or enter a filter condition. Click the Apply button to apply the filter. See Filtering for more information.

NOTE: You can select multiple data items from the list by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking the items. When you select multiple items and configure the data source-specific options, these options apply to all items. If the configuration options you select cannot be reconciled for all the selected items, a default configuration is applied. You can access the data source items in the object's configuration panel to change the default settings as required.

  4. Click OK. A dialog box that is specific to the type of data source you selected will appear. For more information, select from the following:
